Synopsis
Winter 1943, a forest in war-torn Eastern Europe: a poor lumberjack’s wife finds a small package thrown into the snow by a moving freight train. It contains something she’s always wanted, but… “The Most Precious Of Goods”, tells a story set during the Second World War and deals with family and belonging, as well as the search for love in the most threatening of places.

The Play
“The Most Precious of Goods” was originally published as a short story in January 2019 by Editions du Seuil, in the collection La Librairie du XXIe siècle. This text was then translated and adapted for the British theatrical stage by Nicolas Kent, who also directed this adaptation entitled ” The Most Precious of Goods “, which was beautifully performed by Samantha Spiro and Gemma Rosefield on cello, at the Marylebone Theater, London, UK. Recently, this title was adapted for the cinema in a new animated film of the same name, directed by Michel Hazanavicius, which was presented in official competition at the Cannes Festival 2024.
